World Migratory Birds Day on 8 May
- World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated twice a year on the second Saturday of the month of May and October. This time it is on 8 May. World Migratory Bird Day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2006.
- Its main objective is to raise awareness about migratory birds as well as to create awareness for conservation of migratory birds’ habitats, especially wetlands.
- This year, World Migratory Birds Day is being celebrated under the theme: Sing, fly, Soar – Like a Bird.

- World Migratory Bird Day is also celebrated by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
- World Migratory Birds Day is organized by the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), Environment for the Americas and the African – Eurasian Waterbird Agreement (AEWA). The CMS and AEWA are two international wildlife treaties administered by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
National Action Plan for Conservation of Migratory Birds
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched the National Action Plan for the Protection of Migratory Birds on October 10, 2020.
