World Liver Day 2021
On the occasion of World Liver Day 2021 in India on 19 April, the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry has organized “World Liver” celebration day.
This year, the theme of World Liver Day – Keep your liver healthy and disease-free.
World Liver Day is celebrated every year on 19 April to spread awareness about liver related diseases.
According to a recent World Health Organization (WHO) report, liver diseases are the 10th most common cause of death in India.
Hepatitis, liver autoimmune disorder, jaundice, fatty liver, liver cancer, etc. are among the major diseases related to liver, so it is very important to be aware of it.
Liver
The liver is the major organ of our body’s digestive system; the liver is the most important organ in the human body after the brain.
Functions of Liver
- Controls cholesterol levels and bile juice released from the liver helps break down fat in the digestive system.
- It is a major contributor to blood clotting, accumulation of vitamin B12, regulating blood sugar in the body and converting glucose into energy.
Ways to prevent liver disease
- Vegetables, fruits, apples and walnuts, garlic, grapes, carrots, etc. should be consumed along with a healthy and balanced diet.
- Alcohol, smoking and drugs destroy liver cells, so they should not be consumed.
