Recently India has signed an agreement with World Food Program (WFP) for distribution of 50,000 metric ton of wheat.
- India will send it to Afghanistan as part of humanitarian aid.
- The World Food Program is a member of the United Nations Group. It is the largest humanitarian organization in the world. It provides food aid to help people recover from the effects of conflict, disaster and climate change.
- Its operations are funded entirely through voluntary contributions from governments, institutions, corporations and individuals.
- WEP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 2020.
- In India, WEP is working to reform the subsidized food delivery system.
