UDID Project for differently abled people
- Recently, the UDID Project, 2016 has been implemented, under which the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has made it mandatory for all states and union territories to issue certificates of disability using the UDID portal only.
- The UDID project will be implemented from June 1, The full form of UDID is the Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities Project.
- The main objective of this project is to provide a universal ID and disability certificate for persons with disabilities.
About UDID Project
- The project aims to create a national database for persons with disabilities. It will also issue a UDID, i.e. Unique Disability Identity Card for disabled persons.
- Through this project, there will be online availability of data of persons with disabilities across the country, as well as it will be easy to fill the online form and submit the application form for the disability certificate.
Disability covered under the scheme
- Disability based on the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995 has been included in this project.
Benefits of UDID Project
- This project will remove the need to make multiple copies of documents. The UDID card will capture all the necessary details.
- It will be a single document of verification and identification required to avail various benefits in future.
- This will help in tracking the financial progress of the beneficiaries at all levels starting from village, block, district, state and national level.
