Turban Day Act

Turban Day Act

The Turban Day Act has been passed in the Canadian state of Manitoba.

Under this act, now every year on 13th April will be celebrated as ‘Turban Day’ across the state.

Introducing the bill, the state legislative assembly stated that in the state, it is necessary to observe such a day in a year, as the ‘turban’ officially reflects the diversity and multiculturalism of Canada.

Why was April 13 chosen?

  • The most important Sikh festival, Baisakhi, which usually falls on April 13 or 14 every year, commemorates the birth of the Khalsa Panth.
  • On this day in the year 1699, Tenth Guru Gobind Singh laid the foundation of Khalsa Panth among his followers at Anandpur Sahib.
