Tripura Agarwood Policy 2021
Recently, the draft of ‘Tripura Agarwood Policy 2021’ has been released in the state of Tripura to provide growth to the ‘Agarwood’ business of the state to develop an economy of Rs 2000 crores in the state by the year 2025.
This project with an outlay of Rs 100 crore has been taken up as a part of the Central Government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative.
About Agarwood:
- Agarwood is the name of a tree whose scientific name is Aquilaria Malaccensis, its oil is also known as liquid gold.
- The cost of a liter of ‘agar oil’ in the global market is Rs 5 lakh.
- The tree is listed in the ‘critically endangered category’ by the IUCN.
- The agarwood tree is endemic to Northeast India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and parts of Southeast Asia. It is an evergreen tree, which can grow up to a height of 40 m.
