TRAI Encourages ‘Bit-rate Satellite Communication Services’
Recently, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made suggestions regarding ways to promote bit rate satellite communication services.
- The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a consultation paper on Licensing Framework for Satellite-Based Connectivity for ‘Low Bit-Rate’ Applications.
- Low-bit rate applications and Internet of Things (IoT) based devices are devices that effectively perform the task of transmitting signals with minimal damage.
- This will help in the coverage of remote and inaccessible areas where terrestrial coverage or other connectivity options are not available. Thus it will also help in fulfilling the Connect India mission.
About Internet of Things (IoT)
- It is a physical system of inter-related computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people, to which unique identifiers (UIDs) are assigned.
- These have the ability to transmit data over a network without the need for human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.
- The draft IT policy released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology provides for constitution of committees to take IoT-specific initiatives.
- The Government of India has also outlined plans to leverage IoT as part of the Digital India Mission.
