Tiananmen Square Massacre
Recently, the 32nd anniversary of the ‘Tiananmen Square Massacre’ was celebrated in China.
About this massacre:
- On June 4, 1989, supporters of China’s democracy gathered at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, when the protesters were repressed by Chinese troops.
- No official figures for the deaths during this operation have ever been released by the Chinese government, but human rights organizations estimate that hundreds if not thousands were killed by Chinese soldiers in the operation.
- The participants in this protest were mainly students, who were demanding democracy, free speech and freedom of the press in China.
