The Constitution (SC/ST) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2022
Recently, the Rajya Sabha has passed the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
- It has been passed to exclude the Bhogta community of Jharkhand from the list of Scheduled Castes, to include them in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
- Articles 341 and 342 of the Constitution empower the President to determine the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes in relation to any State/Union Territory.
- He issues the order after consultation with the Governor of the State concerned. These orders can be modified later only by an Act of Parliament.
