BIS asks soy product makers to get quality certification Recently the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has asked soy product manufacturers to obtain quality certification and use the ISI mark. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) had organized a webinar on Indian Standards for Soy Products. Its aim is to raise awareness about soy products. The use of soybeans as a form of textured vegetable protein such as soy milk, tofu, soy curd, etc. is getting a lot of encouragement. Textured vegetable protein is also known as soya lard or soya nuggets. In order to keep these soy products safe and quality, BIS has published seven Indian Standards for Soy Products like Fatty Soy Flour, Soya Milk, Soya Nuts, Soya Butter, Soya Amarkhand. Their certification will help in the inclusion of soy products in the Indian diet. Also, due to this, producers will also get better prices. The ISI mark is a standard mark for industrial products in India since 1955. The ISI mark certifies that a product conforms to the Indian Standard developed by BIS. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national standards body of India. It has been established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 for the harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods. BIS also oversees these activities or other relevant matters relating to them. BIS certification provides a kind of third party guarantee to the certificate holder that the quality, safety and reliability of its products are authentic. Mainly it is required for the import of goods. Certification is voluntary for many products. In addition, it also contains a list of a number of products in which the items or products involved are compulsorily certified by the BIS for reasons of public health, safety or the broad nature of consumption.
