Ramana 48th Chief Justice of IndiaThe President of India has appointed Justice NV Ramana as the 48th Chief Justice of India.He will take over as the Chief Justice of India on 24 April 2021.He has been recommended by the current Chief Justice S.A.Bobde. It should be known that Justice Raman's term will be till August 26, 2022.Prior to his promotion to the Supreme Court on February 17, 2014, Justice Ramana was the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.Currently, Justice NV Ramana (NuthalapatiVenkataRamana) is the judge of the Supreme Court. He has been working in the Supreme Court for 8 years.Supreme Court:The Supreme Court is the final interpreter of the Constitution, the last Court of Appeal, the protector of the fundamental rights of the citizens, the President's advisor and the protector of the Constitution.At the top of the Indian judiciary is the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court came into existence on January 26, 1950, and started functioning on January 28, 1950, two days after the creation of the Republic of India.Chief Justice of India:The Chief Justice of India and other judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President of India.With reference to the next Chief Justice of India, the outgoing Chief Justice recommends the name of his successor.Procedure for appointment of judges in the Indian Constitution:Article 124 of the Constitution of India provides for the appointment of the Chief Justice and other judges of the Supreme Court.The Constitution of India under Article 124 (1) states that there will be a Supreme Court of India consisting of one Chief Justice, and not more than seven other Judges. (Unless Parliament by law determines a more number of other judges)At present, the Supreme Court has one Chief Justice and 30 other judges (31 judges in total).The Chief Justice and other judges are appointed by the President.
