"Anamaya" Initiative for improved health of Tribal Communities"Anamaya" Initiative for improved health of Tribal CommunitiesThe Union Health and Family Welfare Minister and the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs have jointly launched the tribal health cooperation program “Anamaya” through video conference.Is a multi-stakeholder initiative, supported by the Piramal Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).It is a unique initiative to bring together national and international non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations to eliminate tribal deaths from diseases among tribal communities of India.Objective of the initiative:Its main objective is to solve the major health challenges of tribal population of India and create a healthy environment for them.In the year 2018, "Abhay Bang Committee" released a comprehensive report on tribal health issues and concerns in India.According to this report, child mortality among the tribal population has halved in the last 26In the year 1988, the tribal child mortality rate was 90, which decreased to 44 in the year In addition, the death rate of children under 5 has fallen from 135 in 1988 to 57 in 2014.The havoc of tuberculosis has also been a sign of crisis for the tribal. If seen, the prevalence of tuberculosis in India is 256 per 100,000While the incidence of tuberculosis in the tribal population is 703 per 100, In addition, each of the four tribal adults suffers from high blood pressure.Based on these reports, the government implemented various programs to improve the health of the tribal population.Anamaya initiative is one of those programs.This will help in meeting the target of "TB Mukt Bharat" campaign by 2025 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Tribal Affairs by integrating the efforts of various government agencies and organizations to improve health and nutrition status in tribal communities.As part of this Collaborative, the Ministry will undertake some activities such as setting up of the National Council on Tribal Health to drive policy initiatives in tribal health, establishment of a Health- Cell to closely monitor healthcare delivery in the tribal areas and devising mechanisms to implement the Tribal Health Action Plan.Implementation:The initiative will be launched with 50 tribal aspirant districts from 6 states with dense tribal populations, and during the next 10 years the work of THC will be expanded to 177 tribal districts recognized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.To increase the development of districts with more than 20% ST population, the Government of India has identified such districts as aspirational districts.Under the Anamay initiative, a National Council on Tribal Health and a Tribal Health Cell will be set up to monitor the health care needs in tribal areas. Also, will implement "Anamaya Tribal Health Action Plan".Other efforts of the government for tribal development:The '1000 Springs Initiatives Program' has been implemented to provide safe and adequate water supply to the tribal people living in complex and inaccessible areas of rural India.This initiative will help in utilizing the water of perennial springs, which will be used to overcome water scarcity in tribal areas.Recently, the Tribal Health Cell is being set up by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
