Glasgow Climate Change Conference - UNFCCC In a recent announcement by leaders in Glasgow, forests and land-use infrastructure have been launched for resilient island countries. This is the first comprehensive agreement at the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) to end deforestation by 2030 and reverse the process. The conference is the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the third meeting of the parties to the Paris Agreement. It is the first time since COP21 that parties are expected to commit to enhanced ambition towards mitigating climate change. It recognizes the important and interdependent role of all types of forests, biodiversity and sustainable land use in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At the same time, it balances anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions from resources and emissions removed by greenhouse gas sinks. It will encourage collective efforts to: To protect and accelerate the restoration of forests and other terrestrial ecosystems Reducing vulnerability, maintaining resilience and enhancing rural livelihoods. Facilitate the alignment of financial flows with international goals. Infrastructure for Resilient Island States: IRIS IRIS was launched by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (launched by India in the year 2019) with small island developing countries.
