Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise – SMILE-75
Recently the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched Smile-75 (Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise-75) initiative.
Under this initiative, beggary people will be extensively rehabilitated in the identified 75 municipal corporations. Smile scheme is a central sector scheme.
It has been designed for the welfare and rehabilitation of transgender community and people engaged in begging. It will be implemented between 2021-22 to the 2025-26.
Two Sub-Schemes of Smile Scheme:
‘Central Sector Scheme for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Welfare of Transgender Persons’ and ‘Central Sector Scheme for Comprehensive Rehabilitation of engaged in the act of Begging’ – provide comprehensive welfare and rehabilitation measures to the Transgender community and the people engaged in the act of begging.
