Advisory Committee to Steer and Guide Semiconductor Mission
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) has constituted a 17-member committee to guide and steer the Semiconductor Mission.
This committee will guide the government’s Rs 76,000 crore semiconductor mission.
The India Semiconductor Mission has been established as a dedicated organization for the Semicon India programme. It aims to develop a sustainable semiconductor and display ecosystem. As a part of this programme, the government has announced several incentives and support schemes for companies involved in silicon semiconductor fabs, display fabs, etc.
The chairman of this committee will be the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology. As its members, government officials and people from industry and academia will be involved.
The Minister of State and Secretary of Meity will be the Vice-Chairman and Convener of this committee respectively.
The committee has to make important suggestions on the following subjects:
- Topic of building a resilient supply chain, and promoting investment
- topic of the financial system and global connectivity
- Research and Innovation and Creation of Intellectual Property for Semiconductor etc.
Semiconductor or Semiconductor: It is a physical material designed to manage and control the electric current in electronic devices.
Factors responsible for the increasing demand for semiconductors: Rapid growth in digitization, technological advancement in the capability of intelligent computing, increase in artificial intelligence etc.
Challenges in Semiconductor Manufacturing:
- The process of chip manufacturing is much more complicated,
- It requires massive investment,
- Related to this is also the shortage of skilled workforce, etc.
