State animal and bird declared in Ladakh
Recently, the Union Territory of ‘Ladakh’ has declared 2 endangered species, ‘Snow Leopard’ and ‘Black-Necked Crane’ as the state animal and state bird of its state.
The ‘Black-Necked Crane’ is found only in the ‘Changthang region’ of Ladakh. The IUCN has classified this bird as ‘Near-Threatened’ in its Red-list.
Along with this, ‘Snow Leopard’ is listed as ‘Vulnerable’ in its Red-list by ‘IUCN’.
In India, snow leopard populations are found in the western Himalayas, the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in the eastern Himalayas.
