Sri Aurobindo 150th Birth Anniversary

Recently, the Prime Minister chaired the first meeting of the High Level Committee to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo.

Sri Aurobindo’s 150th birth anniversary is on 15th August 2022, and coincidentally it will be celebrated to mark 75 years of India’s independence.

The Prime Minister also underlined the two aspects of Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy of ‘Revolution’ and ‘Vikas’ and the idea of ​​’Nar Se Narayan’ for the creation of the Great Man.

Important Contribution –

  • He propounded the philosophy of living a holy life in the world through spirituality. Apart from this, he also emphasized the importance of meditation, Indian philosophy and Vedas, hence he is also known as Yogi.
  • In the year 1893, he had served as a State Service Officer.
  • Between the years 1902–1910, he actively participated in the freedom struggle of India. He was arrested in the Alipore bomb conspiracy case.
  • After being freed from imprisonment, he moved to Pondicherry, where he founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram (1926).

Literary works: Arya (magazine), Bande Mataram (newspaper), Other writings: Divine Life, Synthesis of Yoga and Savitri, Essays on the Gita, Human Cycle, Idol of Humanity, On the Veda etc.

He was nominated twice for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1943 and the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1950.
