Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI)
Recently Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has been given Miniratna category- (Mini Ratna Category-I) has been given the status of Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE).
Its official information has been issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.
Incorporated in the year 2011, SECI is the primary implementing agency of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, working towards meeting India’s international commitments for renewable energy schemes/projects of the Government of India.
Contribution of SECI in Solar Energy Sector:
- SECI has also been instrumental in the development of innovative solar energy technologies such as floating solar power plants and solar-wind hybrid systems.
- This has attracted domestic and international players to invest in large solar projects.
- In addition, SECI has taken several initiatives to promote the use of solar energy in rural and remote areas of the country, including off-grid solar power projects and solar pumps for irrigation.
- These initiatives have helped improve the quality of life of people living in these areas by providing access to clean energy.
The conditions for Mini Ratna status are:
- CPSEs which have made profits continuously for the last three years,
- Should have made pre-tax profit of Rs 30 crore or more in at least one of the last three years and should have a positive net worth.
- The Miniratna CPSE should not default in loan repayments or interest payments on any loan due to the Government.
- Miniratna CPSEs will not have to depend on budgetary support or government guarantees.
