Seaweed
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is focusing on the progressive development of the seaweed sector.
- It is a common name for countless species of marine plants and algae. They grow in the ocean as well as in rivers, lakes and other aquatic bodies.
- Seaweed farming is also being encouraged under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana for the empowerment of fishermen.
- Seaweed is different from seagrass because seaweeds are non-vascular and macroalga-like plants. They do not have true roots, stems and leaves.
- Sea grasses are like vascular plants, with true root, stem and leaves.
