Report on reforms in the education of performing arts and fine arts, presented
Recently Parliamentary Committee has submitted report on Reforms in Education of Performing Arts and Fine Arts.
The recommendations of this parliamentary committee are in line with the National Policy on Education (NEP) 2020. The NEP supports the integration of the arts with the education system.
Importance of integrating arts in education:
- Develops a vibrant and experiential learning environment.
- There is holistic (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) development of each student.
- It develops imagination, expression, communication skills, visualization, creativity, scenario making and creative problem solving.
- Apart from this, it also helps in the development of diversified, critical and reflective thinking. Enhances the student’s ability to understand cultural heritage as a national asset.
- It is helpful for the development of sensory and other skills in children with disabilities.
- This allows them to be increasingly included in the mainstream of the learning process.
- It helps in developing different perspectives and perspectives.
Key recommendations of the committee:
- Art education should be made compulsory till class 10th.
- In art education, special emphasis should be given to Indian folk arts and local traditions such as folk tales, stories, plays, paintings etc. It should also include music, dance, visual arts and theatre.
- A central university dedicated to the arts should be established. Its regional centers should be established at major art/cultural sites.
- An all India regulatory body for arts education should be set up on the lines of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
- A massive public campaign should be launched to promote art in the education system.
