Remembering India’s Missile Man – Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Recently, 27th July, the death anniversary of former President Dr. Kalam has been celebrated. Dr. Kalam became the 11th President of India in July 2002.

Contribution in the field of space:

  • He had made significant contributions as the Project Director to develop India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III).
  • He is also known for the development of the ‘Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle’ of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
  • He has been nicknamed the “Missile Man” of India. He contributed immensely in the development of Agni and Prithvi missiles.
  • He also contributed significantly in the second nuclear test at Pokhran in collaboration with the Department of Atomic Energy.
