Pseudoephedrine

Pseudoephedrine is known as a drug. It is used to relieve stuffy nose due to allergies, cold etc.

  • It is one of the (out of seven) controlled substances in India under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
  • These substances are also known as precursor substances. These are chemicals that can be used to make narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
  • Other controlled substances are aceticanhydride, ephedrine and its salts, N-Acetylanthranilic acid, Anthranilic acid, and two others.
  • The use of pseudoephedrine in drugs is monitored by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) along with other agencies.
