Project DANTAK completes 60 years in Bhutan

Recently Bhutan is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of its ‘Project DANTAK’. On this occasion, the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Smt. Ruchira Kamboj laid a floral wreath on 24 April 2021 at the DANTAK Memorial in Simtokha of Bhutan.

Project DANTAK

  • The Project DANTAK is being run by the Border Roads Organization of India for the development of road infrastructure in Bhutan. Under this, about 1800 km long roads have been built in Bhutan.
  • It may be noted that on 24 April 1961, Project DANTAK was established as a result of the leadership of the third king of Bhutan and the then Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
  • The project in Bhutan with India’s cooperation has changed the condition and direction of Bhutan’s energy, infrastructure and security.
  • Project DANTAK, launched by the Border Roads Organization of India in the year 1961, and is considered to be the largest project started for nation building on a foreign land.
  • Under this project, construction of Paro Airport, Yonphula Airfield, Thimphu – Trashigang Highway, Telecommunication & Hydro Power Infrastructure, Sherubtse College, Kanglung and India House Estatehave also been made possible in Bhutan.
