Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY)
Recently Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Freshwater Livelihood Research Institute, Bhubaneswar (ICAR-CIFA) has launched online market place feature “Aqua Bazar” in ‘Matsya Setu’ mobile app.
This app is developed under ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). It is funded by ‘National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad.
Inspired by PMMSY, the Technology Development Board of the Department of Science and Technology has supported its first aquaculture project for the production of ‘Tilapia fish’.
Due to its rapid growth and low maintenance production, it has been given the title of “Aquatic Chicken”.
PMMSY was launched in the year 2020. It is an umbrella scheme to bring ‘Blue Revolution’ through sustainable and responsible development of the fisheries sector.
It aims to increase fish production from 137.58 lakh metric tonnes in the year 2018-19 to 220 lakh metric tonnes by 2024-25.
