Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY)
Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY), the government has so far allocated a total of 759 lakh metric tonnes of food grains.
About PMGKAY:
- PM-GKAY was launched as a part of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. Under this, free food grains were supplied to the migrants and poor facing economic difficulties due to Covid-19 and lockdown.
- Under PMGKAY, 80 crore beneficiaries registered under National Food Security Act (NFSA) are provided 5 kg free wheat/rice along with 1 kg pulses per month through ration shops.
- Initially, it was started for a period of three months only under the first phase. Later it has been extended in different phases.
