Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (URBAN)
Recently a program was organized by the ‘Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ on the successful completion of 6 years of ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban’ (PMAY-U). It may be noted that this scheme was launched on June 25, 2015.
About the scheme:
- ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban)’ run by the ‘Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA)’ was launched in mission mode. Under which it envisages ‘Housing for All’ by the year 2022, on completion of 75 years of the independence of the nation.
- The objective of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Mission is to meet the housing needs of the urban poor including slum dwellers through the following program components.
- To undertake ‘Slum Rehabilitation’ of slum dwellers with the participation of private developers, using land as a resource.
- Promoting affordable housing for weaker sections through ‘credit linked subsidy’.
- To build affordable housing in partnership with the public and private sectors.
- To provide subsidy for the construction and expansion of private house to be constructed by the beneficiary.
- The ‘Credit Linked Subsidy’ component will be implemented as a ‘Central Sector Scheme’, while the other 3 components will be implemented as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).
Ownership of houses:
- The house constructed under this scheme will be allotted in the name or joint name of the female head member of the family.
- Under this scheme, toilet and drinking water facility, and electricity supply will be available in all the houses.
- In this scheme, preference is given to persons with disabilities, SC/ST/OBC, minorities and transgender.
Achievements:
1.12 crore houses have been sanctioned by the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), out of which the bases of 82.5 lakh houses have been prepared and the construction of more than 48 lakh houses has been completed so far,.
