Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG)

Recently, new changes have been made in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G).

Under this scheme, the following measures are being taken to augment the work being done:

  • It is being monitored on various parameters like the interval between the approval of houses and the completion of construction work.
  • Emphasis is being laid on timely release of Central share and State share from Treasury to State Nodal Account (SNA).
  • Regular linkages are being established with the states to ensure the availability of land for the landless beneficiaries in rural areas.
  • Rural masons are being trained under “Rural Masons Training Programme”. This will make available extensively trained rural masons, which will lead to faster construction of quality houses.
  • Moreover, recently, the Rural Development Minister has launched the PMAY-G dashboard to closely monitor the implementation of this scheme.

This dashboard includes:

  • Single Screen Visualization: This gives an overview of the overall physical and financial progress of the scheme.
  • State Level Report: In this, information related to the scheme up to the block level can be obtained.
  • This provides analysis of time/delay in release of installments etc.

Achievements so far:

  • A target has been set to allot 2.62 crore (88.81% of the total) houses to the States/UTs.
  • States/UTs have sanctioned houses for 2.27 crore (78.9% of the total) beneficiaries.
  • 74 crore houses completed

About PMAY-G

  • It was started in the year 2016. The objective of this scheme is to provide assistance to the eligible rural families to construct 2.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities.
  • The beneficiaries are selected on the basis of housing deprivation parameters mentioned in the Social, Economic and Caste Census (SECC), 2011.
  • These parameters are verified by the Gram Sabhas. The cost is shared between the Central and State Governments in the ratio of 60:40 in the plains and 90:10 for the North Eastern and Himalayan states.
