PM Modi unveils India’s 6G vision document
The India 6G vision document has recently been prepared by the Technology Innovation Group on 6G (TIG – 6G). The group was formed in November 2021 by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications.
Its objective is to design, develop and deploy 6G network technologies that are universally efficient and provide secure connectivity.
Key Points of the Vision Document
India 6G mission can be divided into two phases:
- Phase – 1 (2023–2025): This includes supporting exploratory ideas, risky routes and proof-of-concept tests.
- Phase – 2 (2025-2030): This involves brainstorming and providing possible technology solutions.
Recommendations by the task force –
- An innovative funding mechanism should be established. Through this, support should be provided to industry, start-ups, academia and national laboratories to promote research and development in 6G.
- There should be shared use of spectrum, especially in the high frequency bands.
- Participation in global standards forums should be undertaken to ensure interoperability
