Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE)
Recently the Union Cabinet has approved the new scheme ‘Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE).
The Union Cabinet has approved PM-Divine for the remaining four years of the 15th Finance Commission from the year 2022-23 to the year 2025-26.
It is a central sector scheme 100% funded by the central government. The implementation of this scheme will be done by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER).
Objectives of PM-Devine Scheme-
- Under this scheme, infrastructure development will be funded in an integrated manner keeping in mind the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Yojana. Assistance will be provided to social development projects based on the needs of the North Eastern Region.
- Livelihood related activities for youth and women will be encouraged.
- This scheme will try to bridge the development gap in various sectors.
Importance of PM-DevINE-
- Funding of projects related to infrastructure, health care, agriculture and livelihood will help in improving the quality of life of the people.
- State-specific projects will be encouraged.
- For example the Bamboo Link Road project in Mizoram. This will help in transportation of bamboo from the forests, which will provide a convenience to the bamboo growers.
- It will act as a complement to the ongoing schemes in the North Eastern Region.
