Pink Bollworm (PBW) Attacks Cotton Crop in Haryana, Punjab
Recently, Pink Bollworm (PBW) infection has been reported in the early stages of the cotton crop cycle in Punjab and Haryana.
The pink bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella) is a pest. It is known as cotton worm. It is believed to be endemic to the eastern Indian Ocean region.
The adult female lays eggs on PBW, cotton balls. The newly hatched larvae feed on the seeds, and damage the cotton fibres. This reduces the yield and quality.
It (PBW) exhibits resistance to first generation transgenic BT cotton and insecticides. Thus it causes delay in the growth of cotton..
