Nutraceutical Products
Recently, with an aim to provide accessible, standardised and affordable generic medicines, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) Kendras have added nutraceuticals products, including protein powder and bar, malt-based food supplements and immunity bar for its customers.
What is Nutraceutical Product?
- ‘Nutraceuticals’ is an ‘umbrella term’ used to describe any product derived from food sources—in addition to the basic nutritional amounts found in foods, that have additional health benefits.
- Nutraceuticals can be considered as ‘non-specific biological treatments’ used to promote general health, control symptoms and prevent malignant processes.
- The word “Nutraceutical” is made up of two words – nutrient (a nutritious food ingredient), and “pharmaceutical” (medical medicine).
