Noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna dies
On May 21, 2021, the leader of the Chipko Movement and famous environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna dies passed away due to infection with COVID-19.
Sundarlal Bahuguna
- Sundarlal Bahuguna was born on 9 January 1927 in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. He did a lot of work for the conservation of forests in the Himalayan region. He will always be remembered for his role in the Chipko movement.
- In addition to the Chipko movement, he also launched a movement against the construction of Tehri Dam. He was conferred with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India in 1981, but refused to accept it.
