  • Recently, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for the Multipurpose Convention Center and Exhibition Facility of the North Eastern Space Applications Center (NESAC) in Shillong.
  • The Union Home Minister had directed the use of NESAC for flood management in the northeastern states in the NESAC meeting in January, in which he was told that 110 projects have been drafted in this regard.
  • The Home Minister said that through the NESAC society, our plans can get a scientific basis and on its foundation, the North-East is to be developed. With the coordination of the Ministry of Home Affairs and NESAC, a single window will be created for flood management, so that the states will be informed in time.   • The North-Eastern Space Applications Center (NE-SAC), set up at Umiam near Shillong in Meghalaya, is a joint initiative of the Department of Space and the North Eastern Council, to aid the development of the Northeast region by the use of space science and technology.
  • This center has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing top class technical infrastructure facilities here, so that the North Eastern states can develop their region by adopting the information received from space technology.
  • Presently the North Eastern Space Applications Center (NE-SAC) is assisting in space science research besides undertaking specific projects using Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System (GIS) and satellite communication.

North-Eastern Space Applications Centre is a regional space centre established in September, 2000 by joint initiative of Department of spaceGovernment of India and North Eastern Council to expedite the usage of remote sensing technology to discover natural minerals uncovered in the North-Eastern states of India and to promote overall growth of North Eastern states of India using space science and technology.
