NATO Summit Concluded

Recently, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) i.e., ‘NATO’ summit was organized in Brussels, Belgium. Leaders of all NATO nations participated in the conference.

Key points of the meeting

  • During the conference, all ‘NATO’ countries have strongly committed to the founding ‘Washington Treaty’ of NATO and ‘Article 5 on Collective Defense’ included in it. According to Article 5, an attack against a single ally of a NATO organization shall be considered an attack against all.
  • Major ‘cyber attacks’ have also been discussed during this meeting, which have become an important and worrying topic in today’s time. It was also agreed to update the cyber attacks to include in the language of Article

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)

NATO is an ‘inter-governmental military alliance’, which was established on 4 April 1949 by the ‘Washington Treaty’. It’s headquarter is in Brussels, the capital of Belgium and its ‘Allied Command Operations Headquarters’ is in Mons, Belgium.

Structure

  • Since the inception of NATO, new member countries have been joining this alliance. Initially, the NATO alliance consisted of twelve nations, later the number of its members increased to thirty. The last country to join the NATO alliance was ‘North Macedonia’, which joined in the year
  • NATO membership is open to any ‘European nation’ capable of carrying forward the principles of this treaty and contributing to the security of the North Atlantic region.
