National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA)

Recently the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has released the statistics of tiger deaths.

  • According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a total of 126 tiger deaths have been recorded in the year 2021. This is the highest in a decade.
  • Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of tiger deaths. It is followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka. About half of the big cats that die are due to poachers, accidents, and human-animal conflict outside protected areas.
  • NTCA is a statutory body constituted under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. It was revised in the year 2006.
  • Tigers are listed globally as “endangered” in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
