  • National Technology Day is celebrated across the country on 11 The purpose of celebrating this day is to remind the technological progress made in India and to encourage progress in the field of technology in the future.
  • This year National Technology Day 2021 has been celebrated under the theme ‘Science and Technology for the Sustainable Future’.

Key points:

  • It may be noted that on 11th May 1998, the Indian Army conducted three successful nuclear tests from the Pokhran Atomic Test Range in Rajasthan. This test was called ‘Operation Shakti’ or Pokhran II. It was a series of 5 tests of atomic bombs. These tests were conducted under the supervision of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
  • After the successful nuclear test, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared India a full-fledged nuclear state.
  • The ‘Operation Shakti’ mission was carried out by the Indian Army in collaboration with scientists from the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMDER).
