National Digital Health Mission

Recently, ‘National Health Authority’ has announced to integrate its flagship program ‘Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’ with Arogya Setu App.

Thereby, now, users can create their 14-digit unique Ayushman Bharat health account number through the app.

About mission:

In the ‘Ayushman Bharat National Digital Health Mission’, a digital health ID will be provided for all the individuals, in which the complete health record of the person will be recorded.

Features:

  • ‘Ayushman Bharat National Digital Health Mission’ is a digital health ecosystem, under which every Indian citizen will be given a unique health identity card which will include all the doctors of the individual as well as a digitized health record of diagnostic tests and prescribed medicines.
  • This new scheme will be started under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
  • There are six major components of this scheme – Swasthya Pehchan Patra, DigiDoctor, Health Facility Registry, Personal Health Record, E-pharmacy and Telemedicine.
  • The responsibility of design, construction, and implementation of this mission in the country has been entrusted to the National Health Authority.
  • The main components of the mission, Health ID, Digi-Doctor and Health Facility Registry will be owned by the Government of India and the responsibility of their operation and maintenance will also be with the Government of India.
  • Equal opportunities will be given to private partners to coordinate and manufacture their products for the market. However, only the government will have the right to carry out the main activities and the verification process.
  • Under the National Digital Health Mission, every Indian will be given a health ID card which will act as a health account which will also include information about the person’s past medical conditions, treatment and diagnosis.
  • The ‘Health ID’ will be a randomly generated 14 digit number that will be used to uniquely identify individuals, authenticate them and provide their health records (only with their consent) to multiple systems and stakeholders .
  • When visiting a hospital for consultation, citizens will be able to allow their doctors and health care providers to view this data.

Necessity

  • The objective of this mission is to make it easier for citizens to find the right doctors, schedule appointments, pay consultation fees, and free them from visiting hospitals for medical prescriptions.
  • Along with this, it will enable people to make an informed decision to get the best possible healthcare facilities.
