Recently, the Cabinet has approved continuation of the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) from the year 2021-22 to the year 2025-26.
- NATS National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (under Ministry of Education) is a one-year programme. It equips the technically qualified youth with the practical knowledge and skills required in their field of work.
- Training is given by the organizations to the trainees at their workplace.
- During the period of apprenticeship, a stipend amount is paid to the trainees. Out of this, 50% is repayable to the employer from the Government of India.
- NATS will provide employment to around 7 lakh youth in the next five years and around 9 lakh apprentices will be trained.
