Govt Approves Launch of Nano Liquid DAP Fertiliser, To Benefit Farmers
Recently, the government has approved the introduction of Nano-Di Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer in the market.
Agriculture Ministry has given permission to IFFCO (Cooperative Organization) and Coromandel International to start production of Nano-DAP for three years.
This fertilizer will be available in the market from Kharif season of 2023.
Nano-Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) Fertilizer
- Nano-DAP is the next generation fertilizer. It is produced from nanoparticles of nitrogen and phosphorus. A nanoparticle is a microscopic particle whose size is between 1 to 100 nanometers.
- In the year 2021, IFFCO launched Nano-Urea. It is also working on plans to launch Nano-Potash, Nano-Zinc and Nano-Copper fertilizers.
- DAP is a phosphate-based fertilizer. It is produced by reacting ammonia with phosphoric acid.
- It contains nitrogen and phosphorus. Nitrogen and phosphorus are the primary micronutrients. These are among the 18 essential plant nutrients.
Benefits of Nano-DAP –
- Due to its higher use-efficiency, there will be reduction in fertilizer subsidy burden and import dependence.
- This will reduce the cost of agriculture and help in doubling the income of the farmers.
- Agricultural sustainability will be improved through higher nutrient uptake, less water consumption and reduction in environmental damage.
- This will lead to greater fertilizer use-efficiency, as one 500 ml bottle of Nano-DAP will provide the same benefits as one bag of conventional soil nutrient.
Concerns related to Nano-DAP
- Continuous use of nano-particles will increase the amount of nanoparticles in soil and crops, which may have adverse effects.
- High concentrations of nanoparticles will also have health effects.
