National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJ&E) will conduct a nationwide survey in 500 AMRUT cities under the ‘Namaste Scheme’.
Under this, sanitation workers engaged in hazardous cleaning work of sewers and septic tanks will be counted.
‘Dangerous cleaning work’ does not include the practice of manual scavenging.
‘Namaste Scheme’ is a joint venture of Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and MoSJ&E.
The objective of this scheme is to promote 100% mechanization in sewerage, septic tanks cleaning, drain cleaning etc.
