MyGov portal completes 7 years

MyGov portal completed 7 years of Participatory Governance on 28th July.

It may be noted that MyGov Portal is an innovative citizen engagement platform launched on 28 July 2014. Here the government encourages citizens’ participation in the direction of good governance by involving citizens in the policy making process and seeking their opinion on issues of public interest and welfare.

MyGov is a part of Digital India Corporation. It is a company established under Section 8 of the Companies Act under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Major Contributions of MyGov:

  • Timely dissemination of authentic information.
  • MyGov Platform: MyGov Saathi has more than 185 lakh registered users, who give their views and suggestions on various policy issues.
  • Various suggestions were invited from the citizens regarding draft policies like National Education Policy, Data Protection Policy etc.
  • It has proved to be helpful in crowdsourcing logos and taglines of major national projects. Some notable logos for Swachh Bharat, Digital India campaign etc. were crowdsourced from here.
  • The application of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) for the purpose of governance is simply known as e-governance.
  • Through this, government services are made available to citizens and businesses in a convenient, efficient and transparent manner.
  • The government has implemented ‘e-Kranti: National e-Governance Plan (NGP) 2.0’ to provide all government services to citizens electronically.
  • Participatory governance is embedded in processes that empower citizens to participate in the process of public decision-making. It is to be known that it is gaining acceptance as an effective means to deal with the shortcomings of democracy.
  • Participatory governance practices are contributing to government transparency, accountability and responsiveness and better public policies and services.
