Montreux Convention

Turkey has committed to implement the Montreux Convention, 1936, with respect to the Strait.

The decision by Turkey is aimed at limiting the movement of Russian warships between the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.

According to the Montreux Convention, Turkey controls both the Bosphorus and the Strait of Daniels. It is an essential component of ensuring the security and stability of the Black Sea.

The Bosphorus and Daniels Strait is also known as the Turkish Strait or the Black Sea Strait. These straits connect the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea through the Sea of Marmara.

It is the only route by which a ship can reach the Mediterranean Sea and beyond from the ports of the Black Sea.
