Innovation roadmap of the mission integrated bio-refineries
Recently India has announced the launch of “Innovation Roadmap of the Mission Integrated Bio-refineries” (IRMIB) at the Global Clean Energy Action Forum.
IRMIB has been developed co-led by Brazil, Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Commission.
IRMIB aims to fill the vacancy through the following:
- By identifying the gaps and challenges in the existing bio-refining value chain,
- By prioritizing eight key tasks to support the mission,
- By guiding its overall path in achieving the mission’s goals.
Mission Integrated Bio-refineries (MIB) is the 7th mission under Mission Innovation (MI). It was launched in April 2022. MI is a global initiative to make clean energy affordable, attractive, and accessible to all. To achieve this goal, a decadal plan to encourage action and investment in Research, Development, and Demonstration (RD&D) has been drawn up.
The MIB consists of 22 countries and the European Union. India is its founding member. MIB aims to promote greater international cooperation and funding for RD&D in the energy sector during the next five years.
Objective: It aims to develop and showcase innovative solutions to accelerate the commercialization of integrated bio-refineries.
Target: To increase the use of bio-alternatives in place of fossil-based fuels, chemicals, and materials by 10% by 2030.
Benefits of MIB-
- Fills the gap by identifying the gaps and challenges in the current bio-refining value chain.
- Provides a strategy framework to policy makers to establish an emerging RD&D portfolio.
- Offers exclusive financing proposals across the full range of critical bio-refinery technologies.
- Helps in efficient cycle of public and private investment.
