Recently the Lucy mission was launched by NASA to study asteroids.
Lucy mission – This is NASA’s first solar powered mission. This will be the first space mission to study Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids. Its goal is to gain new insights into the formation of the Solar System 4.5 billion years ago.
These Trojans orbit the Sun in two disparate groups, one group ahead of Jupiter and the other behind Jupiter. Asteroids can be divided into the following categories:
The first, which is found in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Second, drojan asteroids that share their orbit with a larger planet. Third, near-Earth asteroids, whose orbits pass near Earth.
