Discovery of ‘Lisu Wren Babbler’ bird in Arunachal Pradesh
- Recently a new songbird has been discovered by ornithologists in Arunachal Pradesh. He named it ‘Lisu Wren Babbler’ after the Lisu community of the state.
Wren Babbler:
- The belly of this bird is white in colour. Its vocalization is similar to that of the naga wren babbler.
- About 20 species of small Asian birds belong to the babbler family.
- Prominent examples include the grey-bellied wren babbler, long-tailed wren babbler etc.
- This bird is 10-15 cm long and has a short tail. Its beak is short and straight. It is mainly found in South Asia
Lisu Community
- The Lisu are a Tibeto-Burman ethnic group that inhabit the mountainous regions of Myanmar (Burma), southwest China, Thailand and Arunachal Pradesh.
- Their houses are made of wood and bamboo and they cultivate hill rice and maize.
- In India the Lisu people are called “Yobin”.
- In the early 1980s, the Lisu people living in India did not have Indian citizenship, as they were considered refugees from Myanmar. In 1994, he was given Indian citizenship.
- Lisu transmit their history from one generation to the next in the form of songs.
