Kwar Hydroelectric Project
The Cabinet has approved the 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The huge water potential of Chenab will be harnessed through this project.
The Chenab basin is estimated to have a hydropower potential of about 11,283 MW.
Several hydroelectric projects (active or under construction) have been taken up to harness this potential, such as:
- Baglihar Hydroelectric Project;
- Dulhasti Power Station;
- Salal Power Station;
- Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project;
- Kiru Hydroelectric Project;
- Kirthai-Hydroelectric Project etc.
