Recently the state of Kerala has started a Smart Kitchen Project scheme. The objective of the Smart Kitchen Project scheme is to prepare kitchens on modern models and to reduce all the difficulties faced by women engaged in domestic work.
About the scheme:
- The scheme will be implemented by Kerala State Financial Enterprises (KSFE), a state-run chit-fund and lending firm.
- Under this scheme, soft loans will be made available to women of all categories to buy home gadgets or appliances by KSFE.
- The interest on this loan/cost will be distributed equally between the beneficiary, the local self-governing body and the state government.
Importance of scheme:
Gender budgeting: The government estimates that for maximum participation of women in labor, the burden of household chores on them has to be reduced.
Increasing women’s participation: By increasing mechanization in the kitchen, women’s participation in labor can be increased.
