Juneteenth Day of Observance 2021
Recently, the US government has recognized ‘June 19’ as a federal holiday, also known as ‘Juneteenth’ Day.
What is Juneteenth
- On June 19, slavery was abolished in America, so this day has been celebrated nationally in America. This day is also celebrated as ‘Liberation Day’ or ‘Juneteenth Independence Day’.
- On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and declared the end of both the Civil War and slavery. Since then, Juneteenth has become a symbolic day representing freedom for African Americans.
