Jallikattu
Jallikattu is a game of Tamil Nadu related to the control of a bull. It is traditionally part of the festival of Pongal.
- This festival is a celebration of nature. Under this, nature is thanked for a good harvest. Animal worship is also done during this time.
- Jallikattu is also mentioned in Sangam literature. In addition, a seal discovered at Mohenjodaro also makes reference to the taming of a bull. This seal dates back to 2,500 BC to 1,800 BC.
- Similar sports are organized in other states as well – Kambala (Andhra Pradesh), Bullock cart race (Maharashtra), Cock fighting (Andhra Pradesh and other states), Camel race (Rajasthan) etc.
