The International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI)

Recently, the Prime Minister has addressed the fourth edition of the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI).

  • The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) has launched ICDRI 2022 in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
  • The International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) is an annual international conference of CDRI in partnership with member countries, organizations and institutions.
  • It aims to strengthen the global dialogue on disaster and climate resilient infrastructure with an emphasis on human-centred approaches.
  • CDRI is a multi-stakeholder global partnership of national governments, United Nations agencies and programmes, multilateral development banks, etc.
  • This partnership was announced by the Prime Minister of India at the United Nations Climate Action Summit, 2019 held in New York.
  • It is led and managed by national governments. Knowledge is created and exchanged on different aspects of disaster resilient infrastructure on this platform.
  • It aims to boost efforts to enable infrastructure systems to respond to climate and disaster risks. This will ensure sustainable development.
  • The Resilient Infrastructure Marketplace promotes and strengthens opportunities for both the public and private sectors. This will enable both these regions to adopt best practices in disaster and climate resilient infrastructure.
  • It’s headquarter is located in New Delhi.
  • Its members include 25 countries and seven international organizations. The Sendai Framework 2015-2030 for Disaster Risk Reduction has also underscored the importance of disaster resilient infrastructure.

The Sendai Framework has set four specific goals. Four specific targets to reduce damage under the Sendai Framework

  1. Reducing casualties due to disasters in the world
  2. Reducing direct damage from disaster
  3. Reducing the number of people affected by disaster
  4. Reducing damage to critical infrastructure due to disasters
